Choosing The Right Arts and Crafts Lighting
Many people seldom realize how important arts and crafts lighting can be to improve the look of your home. You already use some sort of cover for all of the lamps and ceiling lights in your home, so why not spruce them up a bit with something fancy. But how fancy do you want to go? Well thats where it gets a little tricky.
When shopping for arts and crafts lighting, its important to think about where these lights are going and how they might look in the their surroundings. Sure this light may look great in the store, but would that stainless steel floor lamp really fit in with the overall theme of your room? If you aren't sure, odds are that it will clash with the rest of the room and make you regret that purchase ever time you look at it.
Functionality is often overlooked when shopping for arts and crafts lighting. Many of todays lamps have colored lamp shades, or are made of colored glass. Sure, they may look nice but at what expense? Many of todays lamps have intricate designs and colors within the stained glass, this might look nice but you will inevitably have to purchase higher watt light bulbs for the lamp to put off the light that you need. The same can be said for colored lampshades.
Most arts and crafts lighting is made of heavier metals to give it that extra "rustic" look. This can be very dangerous if you have small children in the house. If you do decide to get one of the heavier lamps, be sure to use a traditional lampshade or secure the lamp down with double sided velcro. Floor lamps usually are made out of lighter metals because of their size, but always be sure that you do not place floor lamps in a child's room.
Whether you are upgrading current lighting or just looking to liven up your home with something new, you can definitely find something that fits your needs. Just remember to keep your new lighting in the style of your home. If you aren't sure that it will fit in with the room, don't buy it. The style of arts and crafts lighting can surely bring life to your home.
